Sale 38 Lot 95A

(COLONIAL) Johann Conrad Weiser ( 1696 -1760) was a German Pennsylvanian pioneer, farmer, monk, tanner, judge, and soldier. His most significant contributions, however, were as an interpreter and emissary in councils between Native Americans and the colonies, especially Pennsylvania. (Colonial) "Indian committed of Rape", 1750, very rare address portion cover to the Governor of Pennsylvania, from Conrad Weiser (noted early Penn. Frontier settler, married an Indian in 1730's, went with Benjamin Franklin to negotiate at treaty in 1749/50 at the same time as of this letter), docketed "Mr. Weiser's letter to the Gov. about a Rape committed by an Indian 20, Feb. 1750". Inlaid with several expert repairs. Very good.
Estimate $ 200-300
