(ANDREW JOHNSON) An impressive pair of framed Civil War-era military appointments given during the administration of Andrew Johnson and each bearing a stamped signature, notable because the two recipients are father and son! The first is a partly-printed D.S., 1p., folio [29" x 24"], Washington, July 17, 1866, issued to William Maynadier [1807-1871] for presidential recognition of a March 13, 1865 brevet for "...faithful and meritorious services in the Ordnance Department..", in which William was brevetted to the rank of brigadier general. The second is a partly-printed D.S., 1p., certificate folio [29" x 24"], Washington, August 3, 1866, issued to Henry Eveleth Maynadier [1830-1868] for presidential recognition of a March 13, 1865 brevet for "...gallant and meritorious services during the war, and particularly while commanding mortar flotilla under Admiral Foote, USN, during operations under Island No. 10 and other rebel forts on the Mississippi Rivers..." in which Henry was brevetted to the rank of brigadier general in the United States Volunteers. Both citations are stamped with the signature of Andrew Johnson and boldly signed by then-Secretary of War EDWIN M. STANTON. Fine condition, handsomely matted and framed in a decorative gilt frame.
