Sale 38 Lot 583

(ABRAHAM LINCOLN) Two A.L.S.'s and two related printed typescripts of the Gettysburg Address. First, an A.L.S. by Hill Daughtry, 1p., 8vo., Columbus, OH., 1924, to early Lincoln expert John E. Boos, in part: "...President Lincoln was a man of courage and great kindness. He had foresight. He never believed ill of a man until he heard both sides...He was born for a purpose and served that purpose perfectly...". With an A.L.S. by poet EDWIN DENBY, 1p., 8vo., 1926, presumably to Boos, in part: "...Not only was Abraham Lincoln supremely great in his service to the Republic and to humanity...his words, like those of the Bible permeate and elevate the thoughts of all who believe in government 'of the people, for the people, by the people'". With two printed typescripts of the Gettysburg Address, each containing a statement on Lincoln, one each from Daughtry and Denby. Very good.
Estimate $ 150-200
