NIKOLAI SOLOVIEV(1846 - 1916) Russian composer, noted for his opera Cordelia, Vakula the Blacksmith, and The Cottage in Kolomua. A.M.Q.S. in Cyrillic "N. Soloviev", penned on an oblong 8vo. sheet, [St. Petersburg], Dec. 11, 1908, four bars of music, marked "Andante". Also bears signatures of Italian opera singer and favorite of Czar Nicholas II MEDEA FIGNER, and Polish piano virtuoso JOSEPH SLIVINSKI. On verso are mounted cut signatures of NIKOLAI GIERS, Alexander III's Foreign Minister who engineered the Franco-Russian Alliance, and PYOTR SVIATOPOLK-MIRSKY, head of internal police during the 1905 Bloody Sunday massacre in St. Petersburg. Age-toning and slight foxing affecting no signatures, else fine.
