SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY SEEKS THE INTERVENTION OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL Interesting A.L.S. on Treasury Dept. letterhead, 2pp. 8vo., Washington, Mar. 2, 1889 in which Sec. of the Treasury CHARLES S. FAIRBANKS writes to Attorney General and ex-Confederate Congressman AUGUSTUS H. GARLAND. In part: "...The Strong people are at me again today, they threaten that if I do not give the draft to Strong through them that they will bring a suit against me & the others threaten suit if I do so deliver it. Now I hope that you will so manage the matter...". On the opposite leaf Garland replies: "...I sent you a letter yesterday explaining attitude. You hold bail and do nothing till further advised...". Very good.
